Originally build in 1912, the Lee Goodwin Residence was acquired by Phipps and converted to housing for homeless women and children in 1990. Almost three decades later, J Pilla was brought on to rehabilitate and convert the 41 units into 60 studios and one bedroom supportive housing units, each with its own bathroom and kitchen en suite.
The project introduced floor to ceiling fenestration at the community room and transformed the back alley into an inhabitable outdoor terrace with seating and planters.
As a Enterprise Green Communities project, This 41,300 sf, two elevated five story buildings in the rehab offer high quality, energy efficient, supportive housing complete with onsite counseling offices, a nurses’ station, laundry, and recreation and community spaces.
